For a brand new year, I'm using a new deck, the Gaian Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert. It's a pack of Major Arcana cards only. The images and the creatrix's intent honour nature, diversity, and the Goddess. You can see the cards at www.gaiantarot.com. Happy New Year!

ARIES. 4. The Builder.
It's time to make rational, intellectual decisions rather than emotion-based ones. Your leadership skills are brought to the test. Will you lead through sharing power with others, or will you lead by being a bully? Your father, or a father figure, may be an important influence this month.

TAURUS. 1. The Magician, Reversed.
January is your month to transform your consciousness at will. That is, to work with discernment on your inner self. It's also a good time for creative visualisation and affirmations to assist you to manifest your truest desires. You're calling forth Spirit in very potent, yet very quiet, ways, and It hears you.

GEMINI. 5. The Teacher.
Nature calls you to be Her student. Learn the rhythms and energies of the natural world in the place where you live. You may be weighing whether to follow a more traditional path or to make a more radical departure. Once you've decided, some may not understand you; however, a wise teacher will appear. You also have the chance to share your philosophy and ideas with others, thereby being a teacher yourself.

CANCER. 8. Strength.
That which was your inner beast is now something that you love passionately. You're able to deal with outer challenges with greater dignity and fortitude. A sense of personal power comes from working on tangible, physical strength (weights? jogging?) and/or greater courage (speaking up? saying "no"?). Kinship with animals helps to maintain equilibrium.

LEO. 2. The High Priestess.
Your intuition is cranked high in January. Following those psychic flashes and letting Great Mystery be your tour guide leads you down rich and rewarding paths. This is a good month to stretch your spirituality and/or take up a divinatory tool such as tarot, runes, goddess stones, astrology, etc. Meditation is your goddess-send at this time. It will assist you to tune in to that aforementioned guidance. This month, you embody the wisdom of age AND the freshness of youth. How 'bout that!

VIRGO. 12. The Tree.
That terrible "p-word", patience, is a lesson this new year. It's time to surrender to the flow, to relinquish any need to control. Things might feel "upside-down", but what the heck! A different, even opposite, perspective could be in your best good. Do without doing.

LIBRA. 3. The Gardener.
Fertility and prosperity are yours. You're gestating good things, whether a work of art, a project, a gourmet meal, or a baby! The concept of parenting is strong in January - e.g. being a parent, your relationship with your parents. You mother, or a mother figure, could be on your mind or very much in your life this month. Those around you may need nurturing and you're able to offer it. This could be through sharing food, enjoying sex, potting a plant, giving a massage, or whatever is given in true love (not because you think you should). It's time to be sensual, creative, and connected.

SCORPIO. 21. Gaia, The World, Reversed.
You're aware of multiple options connected with your psyche and many choices to make about your inner life. Just pick one! You're in touch with your multi-dimensional self/selves, and there's a quiet sense of wholeness, as though the final piece of a psychological puzzle clicks into place. This may be the most grounded and centred you've felt in a while, Scorpio. Immerse yourself in it and make your choices from that place.

SAGITTARIUS. 9. The Hermit, Reversed.
Inner wisdom yearns to be heard, so you may need to retreat. But your interesting life could mean retreating in subtle ways - turning off the phone, doing email only three days a week, or ignoring boring people. You are the recipient of a legacy of sagacious knowing from a member(s) of a previous generation. This is sacred treasure, so guard it well. There's also a sense of ending a phase in order to purify your life of what is no longer relevant.

CAPRICORN. 0. The Seeker.
This new year brings fresh surprises and a clean slate. You have carte blanche - rewrite your life script in your own authentic image. You triumph by seeing life through the eyes of a child. In fact, young people can be a great source of inspiration in January. Your faith in the world is renewed. Whew! Some of you will have the chance for spontaneous travel. Yee-haw!

AQUARIUS. 16. Lightning.
The ground feels shaky, but it's simply old outmoded things, people, concepts, and situations crumbling away. Once the detritus is gone, you are open to receive bolt-from-the-blue sparks of inspiration. Sudden real-world shifts, changes, and reforms might feel like crises, but remember that "crisis" comes from a Greek work which means "to choose" or "to respond". As life rumbles and shakes, will you be reactive or proactive?

PISCES. 18. The Moon, Reversed.
The deep language of dreams is important to learn. Honour the dreams as the puissant signposts and teachers that they are. January offers you the chance to becomes aware of the cycles of your body, mind, and soul. Psyche and Soma desire to be united. Through observing their patterns, you can make this union possible. The potential to open up to non-linear knowing is strong now - you are your own best source of feedback.
